West Norfolk Mayor’s Business Awards 2024: Tyler Pease crowned Employee of the Year for work at The Angel at Watlington

A young chef at a popular pub has revealed his ambitions for the future after being crowned Employee of the Year.

Tyler Pease, who started as a pot washer at The Angel at Watlington five years ago, received the accolade for his current role as chef de partie at the Mayor’s Business Awards held at Lynn's Alive Corn Exchange on Friday.

Tyler was up against tough competition in Hannah Bates of Arbuckles and Helen Stafford of The Old Store at Snettisham.

The award, sponsored by MARS, celebrated “dedication and commitment to the business” and went to an employee who had “gone the extra mile and exceeded expectations”, the judges said.

Shaun Keight, of MARS who presented the award, said: “To be a great employee, you need many attributes to be successful, with passion being high on the list.

“All of the nominees this year are truly great and their passion really shone through in each of our discussions.

“The winner showed us that passion can result in progression in a relatively short space of time; moving from a kitchen porter to front of house and now to chef within the same business.

“He is a highly engaged and dedicated employee who is rightly very proud of his achievements.”

Speaking after he received the award, Tyler said: “It means the world to me, I wasn’t expecting this.

“My boss means the world to me, I’m happy that I’ve made him proud, I really am.”

He added: “I want to take it over one day and be the head chef and make him proud, that would really mean the world to me. I’m so shocked.”
