Home-Start Norfolk in Swaffham receive The King’s Award for Voluntary Service
Two Norfolk charities have celebrated after receiving an award from the King.
Home-Start Norfolk which is based in Swaffham, and Great Yarmouth Samaritans were the two Norfolk charities that were awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service in November of last year.
It is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
Officials from Home-Start Norfolk said they were “delighted” to attend a celebration event last week at the home of Lady Dannatt MBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, where they were presented with an award crystal and certificate.
In addition, two volunteers from the organisation attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace on May 8, along with other recipients of this year’s award.
The trained volunteers at Home-Start Norfolk visit families in their own homes providing personalised emotional and practical support to families with young children who may be facing exceptional difficulties.
Their service provides “confidential and non-judgemental” support. Led by volunteers, the team says they bring knowledge about their local communities, empower families, help them to build resilience for the future, and give their children the best possible start in life.
Liz Cross, from Home-Start Norfolk, said: “Our volunteers throughout the years have shown exceptional commitment and passion in their roles.
“Without volunteers, our service and support to families across the county would not exist.
“It is wonderful this has been recognised and we’re delighted to be able to celebrate this achievement.”
