Stephenson Smart in King's Lynn continues festive tradition

By the time you read this I will have finished work for Christmas, eaten two boxes of mince pies, got the tree lights in a massive tangle and remembered that the same thing happened last year and I meant to buy some new ones.

The present wrapping will have been completed. I will have assisted by placing a finger onto said present when instructed to, holding the whole process together while waiting for that vital piece of sticky tape.

The nut roast will be ready for collection and there’s the usual conversation with the boys about how they must eat at least one Brussels sprout to look like they’ve entered into the spirit, when actually, they hate them.

Oh, and at the eleventh hour one of the boys will declare that the present they have pleaded for since January is 'so last year' and they no longer require it.

Any of this sounding familiar?

I think for each family, Christmas is all about tradition. It certainly is in our house.

The boys put the baubles on the tree that they have collected since nursery all on one branch, and they then take it in turns each year to put the star on the top of the tree.

The problem is no one can remember who did it the previous year.

It’s a bit of a tradition at Stephenson Smart for all six offices to get together at Christmas for a festive meal here in Lynn.

There’s more than 100 of us working between six offices and it’s the only time we all really get together.

It’s been an extremely busy year with the introduction of Making Tax Digital and various other new pieces of legislation, but next year it’s the big one – 100 years of Stephenson Smart in King’s Lynn, so lots of celebrations ahead.
