King Charles visits ‘5k Your Way - Move Against Cancer’ support group at Sandringham parkrun to mark its first anniversary
A special royal visitor helped to celebrate a year of a cancer support group when he dropped by after Sandringham parkrun at the weekend.
King Charles paid a surprise visit to the ‘5k Your Way - Move Against Cancer’ group - which links with the free 5k event on the royal estate on the last Saturday of the month - at Sandringham Visitor Centre on Saturday.
The group - which is one of 108 around the country and the only one in Norfolk - started up almost a year ago to support those living with or beyond cancer and their families.
Sarah Byatt, co-event director at Sandringham parkrun and an ambassador for Sandringham 5k Your Way, said: “His Majesty took the time to talk to us all and was so interested in everyone’s story.
“The estate staff at the visitor centre had made delicious cakes for us and all in all we had the most memorable and special morning.”
The monarch helped to mark 12 months of Sandringham 5k Your Way, which launched at the parkrun on the estate in February 2024.
“We have ambassadors there each month to welcome people and to walk and talk around the beautiful 5k parkrun route in the country park,” Sarah added, in a post on Facebook.
Sandringham parkrun, which itself started in September 2021, is a free, timed 5k event around the royal parkland, starting at 9am every Saturday.
