A fisherman from the Lynn fisherfleet has been nominated for a prestigious industry award.

In the Fishing News Awards shortlist, John Poll, the Skipper of the Lynn-based John Willy, was nominated for the Shellfisherman of the Year award following over 30 years in the industry.

He is one of two nominations from East Anglia and celebrity chef and awards host Simon Rimmer said: “It’s no secret East Anglia produces some incredibly skilled fishermen, and some fantastic seafood, so it’s not surprising to see these nominations.

“The dedication shown by everyone in the seafood industry in East Anglia to maintain such a consistent, high quality product is certainly worthy of recognition and I’m delighted I’ll get to play a part in celebrating these achievements.”

Resurrected after an eight year absence, the Fishing News Awards celebrate the men and women who work long hours, in often extremely difficult conditions, to put healthy and sustainable food on our tables.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Aberdeen on Thursday, May 26, the evening before the popular Aberdeen Fishing Expo, and will be hosted by Sunday Brunch co-presenter Mr Rimmer.
