Plans to secure compulsory purchase orders for two areas of land as part of the Lynnsport housing development have been approved.

West Norfolk Council is seeking to obtain a site to the east of Front Way, North Lynn, where a new pumping station is planned as part of the scheme, and additional drainage land off Edward Benefer Way.

The station, which has already been given planning permission, is designed to divert water away from the Gaywood river area at times of flood risk via the Bawsey Drain and North Lynn Drain, reducing the risk of flooding in the centre of Lynn.

Although talks have begun with the owner of one of the areas, the owner of the other is not known.

Members of the council’s cabinet approved the orders at a meeting on Wednesday evening.

Deputy leader Alistair Beales told the meeting: “It’s a significant public benefit.”
