An alcoholic has been given a suspended prison sentence after he admitted shouting racist abuse towards a Polish man in Lynn’s town centre last month.

Keith Bidwell, 47, of North Everard Street, Lynn, was sentenced to six weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, during a hearing at the town’s magistrates court on Friday.

He had pleaded guilty to a charge of racially aggravated threatening behaviour at an earlier hearing.

The court heard that the incident happened outside the town’s Purfleet Trust centre on April 24.

In addition to the jail term, Bidwell was also ordered to pay a total of £260 in court fees.
