King's Lynn boy, 11, plans sponsored walk to help mum fight 'stupid cancer'

A boy from Gaywood is planning a fundraising walk to support his mum as she fights breast cancer.

Piea Cawston is still running her company, Pia Plum Events, despite undergoing chemotherapy for the disease.

But, with more treatment to come in the months ahead, her son Will, 11, decided to take matters into his own hands and planned a sponsored walk to try to ease their financial worries.

And Piea, who is a single parent, said she was overwhelmed when she found out what he was doing.

She said: “I cried. I cried a lot. I need to work because if I don’t work I don’t have that income and he saw that.

“He’s come up with it all by himself. It blows your mind.”

Although Piea, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in January, is still working at the moment, she will also have to undergo both surgery and radiotherapy when she will be unable to do so.

Will has teamed up with his friend Aidan Billing to walk from his home in Gaywood to Aidan’s in Pott Row on March 30.

And he even prepared his own sponsorship form with a poignant explanation of his reasons for doing it.

He wrote: “I am doing this as my beautiful lovely kind helpful mum has been diagnosed with the stupid idiotic breast cancer and I really want to help her get back to normal and not have to worry about work.”

Will and Aidan are team-mates in King’s Lynn Town’s Under 11 elite squad and Aidan’s mum Amanda is helping to plan their route for the walk.

She has also set up an online fundraising effort, which has already raised around £1,600 for the family.

She wrote: “She is dealing with this amazingly, she’s still laughing, working hard to provide for her two gorgeous boys, carrying on as normal as she can.”
