King's Lynn man jailed for three years after garage raid

A man who attacked a cashier during a robbery at a Lynn garage has been jailed for three years.

Police have today thanked the worker who helped them track down 33-year-old Gareth Lloyd within hours of the incident last month.

Lloyd, of Willow Park, Lynn, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court last Monday, having pleaded guilty to a single charge of robbery. He was also found to be in breach of a suspended prison term.

The charge relates to an incident at the Jet garage on Lynn Road, Gaywood, which happened at around 10.20pm on September 19.

Lloyd became aggressive towards the cashier and claimed he was armed with a knife, police say.

He then forced his way behind the counter and punched the worker before stealing alcohol and cigarettes worth £232.

The member of staff sustained a minor injury in the incident, but was able to provide a description of Lloyd to officers.

A man fitting Lloyd's description was stopped nearby at around 4am the following morning and found to be carrying items stolen from the garage.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Heather Chisholm, said today: "During this robbery, Lloyd made threats to the cashier who believed he was armed with a knife, although one was never seen.

"We’re grateful to the victim for providing such a detailed description of the suspect which ultimately led to his swift arrest six hours after the incident happened.”
