King's Lynn turns back time for Forties event
Hundreds of visitors to Lynn got a taste of what life was like in the town decades ago during the annual Forties Lynn: Life on the Home Front event on Sunday.
The day saw a variety of 1940s-themed activities take place across the Tuesday Market Place, Lynn Museum and the town hall.
A guided tour of the air raid shelter beneath the Tuesday Market Place, live music and a 1940s tea dance were just some of the day’s offerings.
West Norfolk Council, which organises the event, said on Facebook: “Thanks so much to everyone who came along to Forties Lynn yesterday and made it such a great occasion.
“There were some great costumes on show – both from the reenactors and the visitors.”
The team from the Dad’s Army museum based in Thetford brought some familiar faces to the town centre, along with the original Corporal Jones butcher’s van.
Anyone wanting to get a true flavour of the era was in for a real treat, with numerous food and drink options on offer to transport them back to the period.
Vintage makeovers and a display of military and civilian vehicles were part of the event too, with a bomb map of Lynn as a new addition this year.
