King's Lynn's Ian is on the ball with his slimming
A 65-year-old slimmer from King’s Lynn reached the semi-finals of a competition to find the UK and Ireland’s top male slimmers, where he met former international football star John Barnes.
Ian Garrod won through to the semi-finals of Slimming World’s Man of the Year 2018 competition after losing 10st 5.5lbs.
Ian slimmed from 23st 3lbs to 12st 11.5lbs at the Dersingham Slimming World group.
He says: “I joined a Slimming World group after my daughter Rachel told me that she was worried I wouldn’t live to see my grandson grow up.
“I’d seen a friend lose weight with Slimming World, so I decided to give it a go for myself.
“I think I had a really negative view of weight loss before I joined Slimming World. I thought I’d be constantly hungry and have to give up all of my favourite foods. I couldn’t have been more wrong though.
“Getting to meet John was great, too. I never knew losing weight would have this many perks!”
John, who is now a successful pundit, was blown away by the achievements of the men he met at the competition.
He says: “It was a pleasure to meet Ian – I can’t believe his transformation, he doesn’t look like the same bloke!
Mark Godfrey, who runs the Dersingham group that Ian attends, says: “A lot of men think that slimming clubs are female-only zones, so Ian is living proof that this isn’t the case.”
Ian made it to the top 10 in the competition. The overall winner was by Dave Lancaster, from Warwickshire, who lost 20st 8½lbs.
