Do you still feel like it’s just the calm before the storm? Or has the Christmas whirlwind already begun in your household?
In King’s Lynn it all seems to kick off with Fawkes in The Walks. After the festivities there, there’s only a couple of weeks until the lights go on and then before you know it, the panto is in full swing! If anything, the spectacular display in The Walks is less a reminder of the gunpowder plot and everything associated with it and more a pre-amble to the festive season.
The Christmas lights switch on was another success! A great afternoon had by all. Crucially, the lights turned on (must be a big relief every year for the people who wire them up) but more than that it was a nice festive afternoon fuelled by mulled wine and good music.
Next week, we start KLFM’s Toy Appeal. That’s the official start to Christmas for us - standing in streets and shop foyers collecting your donations of toys to be wrapped up and gifted to children who might not have received anything else. In fact, we get so many donations from you (each of which is enormously appreciated) that Hunters Land Rover provide us with the biggest vehicles they stock so we can transport it all. If that fact makes you think “maybe I won’t bother - they clearly get enough” then please listen to Si explaining it on any weekday morning. Or look your own children in the eye and imagine them with nothing to open on Christmas Day. Some donations are already arriving at our office and each of them will be the difference between Christmas Day and any normal day for a child in need.
Away from Christmas, I’ve been doing my best to beat the January gym rush and signed up to Alive Leisure’s new Platinum PT initiative. It’s essentially a new approach to personal training and, to be honest, it seems to really work! In the first three weeks I lost 10.4lbs - that’s not far off 5kgs. I’ve been keeping a blog of the effort on the KLFM website (www.klfm967.co.uk) and I’ve been a bit surprised how easy it’s been.
You know when you spend hours in the gym for a week thinking it’ll make loads of difference then promptly give up? Turns out that’s a cycle that we’re all just wasting our time on.
Their approach is working a treat for me.
