Knockout amount raised for King's Lynn hospital

A stroke sufferer who spent five months in Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital has presented £3,669 to West Raynham Ward.

The money was raised by Angela Snagg, 54, and her family through a fundraising boxing night, as appreciation for the care which she received.

Mrs Snagg’s stroke in 2016 almost proved fatal and she struggles to walk without support.

She said: “The hospital staff were incredible. They couldn’t have been any better towards me.”

Her husband, Steve, 57, boxed while serving in the RAF and is a former judge and referee.

He was also a trainer at King’s Lynn’s Gold Star Boxing Club and Downham Market Boxing Club and wanted to use his knowledge and experience of the sport to fundraise.

The event was staged at Gedney Victory Hall, near Holbeach, last February.

The couple’s son, Pete Bloom, and daughter, Kimberley Mangione, and her husband, Guiseppe, who had flown from their home in Australia to be with Angela, helped organise and run it. Angela organised the raffle.

Spectators paid to watch participants from Heros Gym in Lynn and Heacham Boxing Club, with sponsorship provided by Fabrican Engineering Ltd, of Lynn, and Long Sutton firms Statech UK Ltd and Jim Wright Engineering.

Steve, of South Wootton, said: “I wasn’t expecting it to be half as popular as it was so we were all really pleased.”
