Latest data sheds light on coronavirus deaths recorded outside of hospital in West Norfolk
Three people with coronavirus have died at care homes in West Norfolk, according to provisional data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) today.
The ONS data showed that the deaths of three people at care homes in the area had occurred in the week starting April 4 (week 15 of 2020) – a total of 51 deaths, of all causes, were recorded in the borough during that week.
The provisional statistics include deaths that occurred since the start of the year up to April 10 but were registered up to April 18.
Officials say, as of March 31, the figures related to any deaths involving coronavirus are based on any mention of Covid-19 on the death certificate.
The data also suggests that a total of 28 Covid-19-related deaths have occurred in hospital in West Norfolk in that time frame.
But the latest figures from a different source, NHS England, show that the number of confirmed deaths of patients who tested positive for the infection while at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital is 61 – while 91 patients have been discharged from the hospital, having recovered sufficiently after testing positive for the virus.
No deaths have been recorded in the ONS data at other locations – such as at home, at hospices or other communal locations.
