Armed police are currently at the scene of an incident in South Lynn, it has been confirmed tonight, Wednesday, February 25.

A statement issued a short time ago said units were sent to the area shortly after 9pm this evening following reports of a disturbance in Wisbech Road.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said: “Armed officers have been dispatched to the area with assistance from the police helicopter.

“If members of the public see anyone acting suspiciously in this are they should call Norfolk Constabulary on 101.

“Residents should be reassured that officers will remain on scene until the matter is dealt with.”

Earlier, there were social media reports of several vehicles and a helicopter being seen near the St Michael’s Primary School in Saddlebow Road.

Borough councillor Gary McGuinness said via Twitter that he had seen two police vehicles heading towards South Lynn at around 9.20pm this evening.

He added that he saw three police cars at the site at around 10pm while a helicopter was also hovering overhead until a short time ago.

Another Twitter user said the helicopter had been circling for some time and kept heading near the Walks.

However, police say no further details will be issued at the moment for operational reasons.
