The busy season continues for West Norfolk Swimming Club, with an enthusiastic young team competing in the first round of the Norfolk Junior League.
Team manager Samuel Chandler was delighted as his swimmers produced some fine swims to push their rivals to the limit.
Hosts Dereham welcomed West Norfolk, along with UEA, Thetford and Great Yarmouth, for a lively evening of racing.
It became clear early on that all the teams were in great form following the recent county championships. UEA established an early lead, but West Norfolk were never far away, with some dominant performances, winning four relays and eight individual events.
Robert Addis, Astrid Hubbard and Freddie Laws won two races each, with Freddie stunning the opposition in the 12/under 50m breaststroke.
He won by a distance, underlining his recent county successes in this stroke.
Rachel Johnson and Harry Sharpe also gained valuable points from their individual wins on the night.
It is always encouraging to see new swimmers in their first league galas, with Summer Reploge and Erica Chambers clearly enjoying the experience.
The whole team worked together in the relays and provided their usual support for each other poolside.
An exciting evening saw West Norfolk push UEA to the limit, coming away with a very creditable second place, which bodes well for the next round.
Many thanks to all team officials and helpers and loud cheering family members.
Final placings: 1 UEA 192 points; 2 West Norfolk 157; 3 Great Yarmouth 114; 4 Dereham 112; 5 Thetford 86.
