Celebrations for Feltwell’s Edmund De Moundeford Primary School after new outdoor classroom unveiled
Pupils and staff at a primary school are celebrating after opening a brand new outdoor classroom.
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Edmund De Moundeford Primary School in Feltwell has held a number of events to raise funds to build the classroom for its 170 children.
In May, they reached their target of £12,000 and were delighted to receive donations from the Edmund De Moundeford Trust, Precision Paving, Paul Thompson and West Norfolk Council.
It was thanks to these donations that the highly anticipated outdoor space - called The Aviary due to the school’s bird class names - was able to be constructed.
It was officially opened by one of the youngest and one of the oldest children in the school and celebrated with parents and the school community.
Michelle Ablitt, deputy head teacher of the primary school, said: “The PTA have worked so hard in raising these funds and their work has paid off. I know the children will thoroughly enjoy taking more of their learning outside.”
During the opening celebration, the PTA also celebrated winning the Feltwell Carnival, which was held on June 15, in which around 20 children took part.
Heroes was the theme for this year, with the children dressing up as fighter pilots or soldiers, to link with the local air force bases.
The float included cargo netting and a two-metre scaled model of a jet, organised by the PTA and Mrs Ablitt.
She said: “Despite the rather wet weather for the carnival, the children dressed up brilliantly and we are so proud to have the Feltwell Community Group shield.”
The PTA continues to raise funds, with an end-of-year disco and tuck shop and many more events planned in the autumn term.
A PTA spokesperson said: “We are so excited to have the outdoor learning space for the children and would like to thank the parents for their continued support with the fundraising events we hold. Without them, there wouldn’t be an us.”
Meanwhile, for the second year running, all children at the school have enjoyed lessons with a local artist Mr Gibbons.
This was part of a “thoroughly enjoyable” Sky Arts week, with each class studying particular artists and replicating their work.
Parents came to view the gallery, with their children showing off their new skills.
