New gun will improve Duchess's shooting skills, Lynn News letters

By Lynn News Reporter

The story in the Daily Mail, also my regular newspaper, is worthy of comment, for or against. Or are they afraid of being verbally abused in any reply?

Personally, I disagree with their comments. The Duchess of Cambridge is allegedly already a good shot and if she enjoys the sport (that’ll cause a few comments), purchasing a good 12 bore shotgun, tailored to her requirements, will only improve her shooting talents.

Buying George a rifle will not influence gun or knife crime one iota. He’ll not be running around like a lunatic for a start, but taught to shoot in a safe and controlled manner as are all game shooters.

Safety is paramount and strictly enforced. Born and brought up in the Kent countryside in a different era, as a ten-year-old I could handle a .410 shotgun, a smaller version of the 12 bore, with confidence when shooting rats as vermin or bunnies for the pot.

As regards the Duchess of Sussex aka Meghan Markle, it was reported that she had allegedly banned Prince Harry from attending the Boxing Day shoot. However, he was out there with the other royals, taking part in what is a traditional event at Sandringham. The Duchess, while trying hard to learn the traditions and protocols of “The Firm”, is still at the bottom of her learning curve.

In conclusion, I would like to request that any comments, especially those who disagree with me if my letter is published, are polite and thought through. Letters from some correspondents in the past have sailed pretty close to the wind, becoming angry by what they read, and failing to engage brain before hitting “send.”
