Flashback to February 2107 when renovation of Wenns was under way.

I write in response to Jonathon Eyres’ mean-spirited letter (Lynn News, October 10) about the former Wenns Hotel.

He is perfectly entitled to feel sad that the name of the establishment will be changed and like him, I am interested in the history of the building. On the other hand, I feel very strongly that the owners should be proud to give the new business their own name. These are people who are putting investment into the local area, giving a considerable amount of work to local tradesmen, interior designers etc which will result very shortly in a building back on its feet after having been an eyesore in the historical part of the town for many years.

To start a new business like this comes at the price of huge personal risk – something that others, who never undertake such a venture, do not consider.

Mr Eyres’s final paragraph puzzles me – is he implying that his preference would be for the business to fail if the name doesn’t suit him?

I can quite understand if the new owners wish to create a new vibe for the future and I wish Goldings and its owners every success for the future.
