She said: "Leaving the EU by the end of October is a hard red line and will happen in all circumstances."

The ex-Commons leader said she had a plan for a "managed exit" adding "Parliament could not stop us leaving".

Rival Paul Parker, MP said on the same day said: "It was not possible to leave by October 31". Another contender Matt Hancock, MP said "Brexit could not be solved by threatening no deal."

No lessons are being learned from history. It was Europe which terminated the premierships of David Cameron and Theresa May in a disjointed Conservative Party. The new PM hasn't even been chosen and the divisions are still evident in the Tory hustings.

All of this will be music to the ears of Jeremy Corbyn as a distraction from Labour's problems, and to Nigel Farage who is on a roll.
