Quay name in King's Lynn should reflect the future, Lynn News letters

By Lynn News Reporter

I suggested Vancouver Quay might be more appropriate, or possibly Cresswell, because these historical names were more directly related to the town and the location.

I still think it would be wrong to use Nelson. But I have changed my mind about what it should be called. I now feel it would be more appropriate to keep King’s Lynn in the title, rather than an historical figure. I want to suggest we call it King’s Lynn Quays.

If it is called Nelson Quay, the question “Where’s that?” will follow immediately.

The South Quay, King's Lynn.. (9874816)

There is also more than one quay – South Quay, Boal Quay, Riverside Quay, and hopefully later, Arts Centre Quay. So the plural in King’s Lynn Quays is justified.

Nelson, Vancouver, Cresswell all refer people back to the town’s history. What you are promoting now is not the history of the town, but its current reputation as a centre of vitality, located where history happened, but with a future to be welcomed by residents, industry and visitors.
