Still time to object to opening Hardings Way, King's Lynn, to traffic

The weather was glorious and about a 1,000 riders started from the Tuesday Market Place to celebrate a pleasurable and healthy way to travel, as well as to raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

I also attended as promoter of the 38 degrees online Petition: keep-cars-off-national cycle route 1 in kings-lynn. While I was not surprised that people from Ely and similar distances had not heard of the proposals to open up Hardings Way to HGVs and other motor traffic, it transpired that most of those even living locally were not aware of it. The reactions varied from disbelief to outrage. The event was also supported by West Norfolk Council, who are happy to promote cycling as a fundraising event for charity, and to regard cyclists as valuable tourists to spend money in the town, while at the same time planning attacks on their basic rights and safety on one of the few safe cycle routes into town.

Norfolk County Council currently has a consultation on a Traffic Order to open up Hardings Way South to motor traffic. It would be good if people could be reminded of that. It runs to June 12, and any objections can be emailed to trafficorders@norfolk.gov.uk.

It is a pity that I had important work to do, because, though not as young as formerly, I might just have managed the 25 miles myself.
