Letter: Richard English November 7, 2017
I note that Banner Lady aka Ms Jo Rust has written yet another unhelpful letter and organised an online petition, now up to 2000 signatories, regarding the making redundant of 150 police community service officers.
She completely ignores the fact that our excellent Chief Constable Simon Bailey is to employ an extra 81 police constables. She offers no helpful suggestions other than to raid the infamous Labour Money Tree. I have to remind Ms Rust and the 2,000 petitioners who want more money from the Home Office it’s not the government’s money or that of the council – it’s our money. Yes, that’s you and me folks, no one else.
I have nothing but admiration for PCSOs who do a fantastic job given the constraints under which they have to work, for example, they can’t arrest anyone, can’t drive a police vehicle and can’t cross county borders on duty. With this being the case the 81 extra police officers sounds like a bargain to me.
Now before I am accused of being a pompous uncaring right-winger, I have to say that the Tories are making an absolute shambles of their first job in protecting us, the citizens of the UK. The Police and our Armed Services are our front line and their numbers should be ring-fenced, if not increased. And for that we all will have to pay extra, not as per the Britain needs a pay rise march that took place at the weekend, but there again it’s the Labour Money Tree that provides all!
