Shelve Downham parking fees idea, Lynn News Letters
Unless there is a total blanket ban on free parking you’ll find the two large supermarkets will draw everyone onto their spaces and smaller retailers will not see the footfall.
At the moment one of the great benefits of dodging into town is the fact you can just turn up and go where you need to go without faffing about with meters and their associated costs. Some people will stop coming, although outlying village shops will gain some trade at the expense of the “health and growth” of the town. They say you should be careful what you wish for,you might get it.
This is a big deal for Downham. I suggest the town council shelves the idea and focusses on drawing more people in rather than putting them off!
