Whips' use in horseracing – let’s have some balance, Lynn News letters

He doesn’t seem to appreciate that these things represent a traditional way of life for many “sportsmen” whose lifestyles are under threat from people who have already banned fox hunting with dogs, hare coursing and, further back in time, bear baiting and cock fighting.

What does he want? People to respect animals and show some consideration for their wellbeing?

Before long the shooting season will begin and up and down the country thousands of hard-working people will be relaxing at the weekends by killing and injuring wildlife for fun. You’ll be complaining about that I imagine next?


My suggestion to try and inject some balance into this horse-whipping controversy might be to permit owners to thrash jockeys with equal violence when required.
