Still awaiting economic benefit of Marham planes, Lynn News Letters

The area continues to slide into a vision of scruffy untidiness and general downbeat malaise that pervades the whole atmosphere in our corner of the county. But, Jo, either you’ve chosen to ignore it or are trying to put it out of your mind but, according to Liz Truss, the truly wonderful addition to our skies of the new war planes at RAF Marham and the accompanying £100 million benefit to the local economy should be something we can all be proud of.

It would be fair to say I’m not seeing a great deal of benefit from the arrival of these ‘stealth’ weapons and the verges continue to grow, the potholes deepen and the road signs rust and rot.

I’m not feeling a great deal of pride in their arrival and wish it wasn’t happening but their malign presence is here and no doubt we’ll maybe reap the benefits of their arrival one day but my guess is it’ll be business as usual apart from one thing – more noise!

How can they possibly be described as ‘stealth’? I can hear them coming about five minutes before they blast overhead in Denver, one behind the other, day and night.
