Council tax is taking money by stealth, Lynn News letters

By Lynn News Reporter

Still the cuts go on. Council tax increases are a tax by stealth. The government is taking hundreds of millions of pounds from council budgets making it impossible for them to carry on providing services.

First council tax increase was to help pay for social care cuts. The one being proposed now is to help fund the police, because of cuts once again.

Now we are being told half of bus routes face the axe. So will there be a third council tax rise to fund the bus services? People should stop blaming the councils and put the blame where it belongs - at the door of this incompetent government and ask questions of their local MPs.

We have the worst housing crisis ever. We need affordable homes for rent to be built, not homes of £300,000 to buy.

It’s alright for the few, but not for local people being paid low wages. Homeless people are at record levels now living on the street.

Let’s not forget about the massive rise in food banks’ use and 86 per cent of Sure Start children’s centres are to close. Cuts to council spending means £7 billion has been lost from social care spending since the Tories came to power.

Pressure is heaped onto hard pressed relatives to give care. Five million Brits now look after relatives. Whatever the outcome of Brexit, these things won’t change, it’s the government’s policies which has caused this, not the EU.
