Thanks to all bell ringers on Armistice Day, Lynn News Letters
It seems amazing that that special day from 100 years ago should fall on a Sunday.
Peter contacted bell ringers from other towers in the area so the magnificent ten bells of the Minster were able to be rung half-muffled from 9.15am for the 10am parish Eucharist and also at 11.15am for the 11.45am civic service following the remembrance ceremony and wreath-laying at the war memorial in Tower Gardens.
The muffles were removed from the bells and later they rang out in celebration. Bell ringers included David Moore, John Harris, Steve Howie, Peter Jackson, Chris Hampshire and David Truman with Heather Dobson as standby. After the beacon was lit in the evening at Kings Staithe Square, the ten bells rang out again in keeping with all church bells throughout the UK to be rung like they were 100 years ago.
All bell ringers on this special day deserve a thank-you, giving their time and energy in Lynn and the wider area throughout the UK. We at the Minster enjoyed a toast given by Peter with hot, mulled wine provided by retired Dr John Martin. Peter, thank you from us all - you are tireless.
