Lions club helps youth centre in Downham Market to clean up with washing machine donation

A youth centre in Downham has been given a helping hand to keep clean after they were gifted with a new washing machine last week.

Downham Market Lions Club presented officials at the town’s Swan Youth Project, on Paradise Road, with the appliance on Thursday.

Lions Club president Alan Pickering said that it was a “pleasure to be able to help the great efforts being displayed by the Youth Project”.

The Swan Youth Project runs groups for young people between the ages of eight and 25, but it primarily works with children who are aged eight to 14.

Project administrator Anna Foster said the centre has recently gained a grade 5 in food hygiene and the new washing machine will help them maintain this, as they will be able to wash tea towels and other items on site.

She said there are also a number of soft furnishings such as covers and curtains that need regular washing.

As part of the work that the youth project does, young care givers are supported and the ability to work a washing machine is “valuable training”, she added.
