South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss now second favourite to be next Tory leader
South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss has had the odds on her being the next leader of the Conservative Party dramatically slashed after she was pictured this week 'doing a Maggie'.
Ms Truss, the Foreign Secretary, was pictured riding a tank while on a visit to see British troops in Estonia this week.
The pose she adopted on top of the tank was very reminiscent of that of Margaret Thatcher, who back in 1986 was pictured in Germany.
Ms Truss has had her odds on being the next leader slashed from 25-1 to just 4-1 with the bookies. She has overtaken Michael Gove (7-1) to be installed as second favourite behind Chancellor Rishi Sunak.
A survey by the influential ConservativeHome website this week ranked her as the most popular among Tory supporters to succeed Boris Johnson, if a vacancy was to arise.
Mr Johnson is still odds-on to lead the Conservatives at the next election, however.
Ms Truss was in the Baltic for a NATO summit in Latvia, where she had strong words of warning for Russia's Vladamir Putin about any thoughts on invading Ukraine.
