Bexwell's lucky Trigger in a league of his own
Trigger the horse has been visiting various Remembrance Day events covered in a poppy blanket.
His back story is as inspiring as the people he has been meeting.
Rachel Cordle, of Chantry Livery Services, in Bexwell, is Trigger's owner who has been accompanying Trigger on his recent appearances at Denver VC Primary School and Magdalen Academy and village hall.
She said: "It all came about when my neighbour was making a rug for remembrance displays and asked if I had a horse suitable to take along to a visit in Bexwell.
"Due to Covid-19 the local church in Bexwell used Zoom for the service due to the lockdowns but Trigger really lifted people's spirits.
"This year we wanted to do something again so Trigger came along to the primary school and it's important to bring it home to the next generation and support the local community.
"We had lovely feedback from the teacher and they've been studying the book War Horse by Michael Morpurgo as well."
Trigger has come by his stable name not because his owner is a fan of Only Fools and Horses but because he has been due to be put down so many times.
Rachel said: "Trigger was found tied up as a one-year old, malnourished nearly dead and if beyond saving he would have been put down.
"I happened to be teaching at a riding school and asked if I would like some ponies and one was Trigger.
"He was three-years-old by then and he is now seven. He has been in and out of dressage making it to the championships and qualified for area festivals.
"He will literally help anyone who sits on him, he's a diamond. He's dodged a bullet so many times."
