King's Lynn audiologist helps improve quality of life for war veteran

An audiologist from Lynn's Hidden Hearing has improved the quality of life for a retired butcher by nominating him to receive a free pair of digital hearing aids as part of a national campaign.

Adam Smith, audiologist at the Saturday Market Street branch of Hidden Hearing, tested and nominated Ron Sanderson, of Wisbech, to be gifted the aids through the National Campaign for Better Hearing.

Adam said: "Many people ignore their hearing problems until it’s too late which can affect their health and quality of life. This is particularly important for those aged in their 50s and above.

"Having your hearing tested is a simple step we can all take to help minimise the risk of developing dementia. This campaign is a great initiative and we’re encouraging everyone in the area to ‘Test Your Ears At 55 Years’."

Ron, whose family are delighted with the result, said: “This means more than anyone will know and I can now look forward to enjoying the trip to the D-Day beaches where I landed soon courtesy of the Royal British Legion."

Ron had been struggling with his hearing for a while and the conversations with family and friends had become a problem. He'd had tests before but this time, thanks to the campaign, he was nominated for the free hearing aids.

Ron's story touched the expert panel, consisting of GP and health broadcaster Dr Hilary Jones and royal correspondent and celebrity ambassador for the campaign, Jennie Bond. They decided Ron was a worthy recipient of the advanced hearing aid system.

Each month Hidden Hearing is donating up to five pairs of hearing aids, one for every 1,000 free hearing tests that they carry out nationwide. The campaign runs for the rest of the year and more nominations are invited.
