PIL Membranes Ltd steps up to the mark in coronavirus crisis to increase production at its King's Lynn site

A Lynn company is stepping up to the mark in the face of the coronavirus outbreak by increasing its production of critical anti-viral membranes used in the medical industry.

PIL Membranes Ltd, a specialist in water vapour transfer technologies, has been based in Lynn since the mid 1960s and supplies specific anti-viral membrane technologies used in surgeons' gowns, medical drapes and other related products under the Porelle brand name. The company is a member of the KL Technologies Group located in Estuary Road.

He said: "We adapted our production scheduling accordingly to accommodate this surge in demand. We worked with our workforce to increase safely our production, having implemented the latest government guidelines, and have moved to seven days rotaries. Each and every one of our employees is making a significant contribution to the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

"As a result, our customers have produced the equivalent of 150,000 extra surgical gowns and drapes using Porelle Membranes in a space of four weeks. Those gowns are sold globally and used by many healthcare systems, such as the NHS.

“I am very proud to see our workforce rising to meet the challenges of working in this unprecedented situation, on site or from home, covering for those who had to go into self-isolation, in order to keep the critical supply of our membranes into the medical sector.”
