Kip McGrath Education centre in King's Lynn sees students progress within weeks of opening
An education centre which opened in Lynn just eight weeks ago is already seeing huge improvements in students' achievements.
The Kip McGrath centre at 17 Norfolk Street, next to Castle Costumes, was opened by experienced teacher Heather Rugg, who is the director.
Heather said: "We are thrilled with the efforts of our hard working students and the progress they are making.
"One of them,16-year-old Ella Gordon, is one of our first students and has increased her reading age by over two years since starting tuition at the end of October.
"In the New Year we will be advertising free parent workshops to help support children’s reading, comprehension and phonics. We will also be inviting pre-school children and their carers to join us for story and rhyme time every Monday at 10am, starting on January 13."
To get into the festive spirit, Heather organised a competition for youngsters to either write a short story or write the diary of a mischievous elf.
Merissa Lawrence, 14, of Lynn, who attends Springwood High and is a regular Kip student working to achieve grade 9s in her English GCSEs, won a £15 Amazon voucher.
Libby Smith, 10, of Sleaford, is home educated and saw the competition advertised on Facebook. She won a bag full of elf-themed goodies including a card game, paper chains, books and elf snacks.
Her mum, Lisa, said: "This competition provided a great creative writing opportunity for us. Libby thoroughly enjoyed participating and it has really boosted her confidence in writing composition."
Heather said she was pleased to have received so many entries from Kip students, local schools and the home education community. It had been tough to choose just two writers as winners, she said.
The centre now runs sessions on Monday and Tuesday evenings and Saturdays.
Kip McGrath Education was founded in Australia 40 years ago and has been the leader in remediation tuition, focusing on the foundations of English, reading, spelling, comprehension and maths.
Free assessments for learners can be booked via www.kipmcgrath.co.uk/kings-lynn and details about the Lynn centre are available on its Facebook page. It can also be contacted on 01553 611876.
