Macular Society support group in Downham Market celebrates £500 community grant

The Macular Society support group in Downham has benefited from a community grant of £500, which will help to pay the associated costs of room hire and administration.

The money has been awarded by the ward councillor for North Downham, Cllr Andy Bullen, through the borough council’s Councillor Community Grant Scheme.

Mary Davies, leader of the support group, said: “We are all so grateful of this generous grant enabling far-reaching beneficial effects to those affected in any way with a macular condition.

“Vision loss from macular disease can be very isolating. Our group helps to give a better understanding of the condition and helps to build confidence. Family members and friends are also warmly welcome to come along to join in sharing experiences with those who really understand what sight loss is like.

“Members can also make new friends and we have an interesting programme of speakers on various topics throughout the year and provide an extensive range of information and support from the Macular Society and other care services in our region.”

Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month,1.30 pm-3.30 pm, at the Downham Methodist Church Social Centre. For more information contact Mary on 01366 388660 or 07980196611.
