Breckland Council launches major consultation on Local Plan
Breckland Council has launched a major public consultation that will give people the chance to help shape how the district grows and develops over the next 20 years.
The authority, which covers Swaffham and the surrounding villages, is inviting people who live, work, study, or run a business to share their views on its Local Plan.
This will determine where new homes, jobs, and infrastructure should go, how the council builds a more sustainable district that protects the environment, and how best to enhance the character of towns, villages, and countryside areas.
Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, leader of Breckland Council, said: “This is your plan, your future, and your chance to have your say on how Breckland should grow. The Local Plan will guide where new homes are built, where we create jobs, and what we protect for generations to come.
“By taking part, you’re helping to put local voices at the heart of Breckland’s future. Whether you care about affordable homes, green spaces, transport, or the character of your town or village, we want to hear from you.”
The Local Plan sets the long-term framework for how Breckland will meet Government housing targets and deliver the right infrastructure, while ensuring growth is “sustainable and reflects local priorities”.
The consultation will run for six weeks, closing on December 15, and residents can take part online or by attending in-person engagement sessions being held across Breckland’s five market towns - including Swaffham
Feedback gathered during this stage will shape the next version of the Local Plan, which will be published in 2026.
