Person hit by train between King’s Lynn and Ely
Train services were cancelled in West Norfolk after a person was hit by a train.
The Great Northern service has reported the incident occurred between Lynn and Ely this afternoon.
People using trains travelling from stations in Lynn, Watlington, Downham and Littleport were advised to use an alternative route, although the line has now reopened.
A short while ago, a post on X from the service said: “Services are returning to normal between Ely and King’s Lynn following this tragic incident.”
An earlier statement from Great Northern said: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Ely and King’s Lynn.
“All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.
“Your journey is likely to be disrupted, but we don't have an exact estimate for any delays at the moment. We'd advise delaying travel until later today if possible, otherwise you may need to consider making your own way to your destination.
“We are requesting buses to assist with journeys between Ely and King’s Lynn, so we'll update you once these are confirmed.
“Services that usually run to King’s Lynn will instead start and terminate at Ely. When we can, some services will also travel up as far as Downham Market, so please check journey planners for the latest updates.”
The service has also issued the following advice: “If you are on a train which is stopped between stations please remain onboard and listen out to announcements from onboard staff or the driver.
“We're aware of your location and are working to get you moving as soon as we can. If you are travelling now we would advise you to allow at least 60 minutes extra travel time.”
Emergency services have been contacted for further details on the incident.
