King’s Lynn man cycles over 250 miles in 24 hours for ambulance service

A man from Lynn cycled 255 miles in 24 hours to raise money for the East of England Ambulance Service Charity.

Stuart Howlett, a make ready coordinator for the ambulance service, embarked on the mega journey to cycle to every ambulance station across Norfolk in 24 hours.

Before the journey, he prepared himself for “hopefully no blood, most definitely sweat and possibly a few tears”.

Stuart started his journey in Lynn at 5am last Wednesday. He cycled to each of Norfolk’s 17 ambulance stations, going to Downham, Hunstanton, and further afield.

He completed the mammoth journey at 2am, returning to Lynn, where he was met with the sight of his colleagues waiting for him.

Reflecting on the journey, Stuart said: “The day was one to remember. I’ll never forget turning into the final home station – it was jaw-dropping for me. Blue lights from the ambulances lit up the front of the station and the night crews were there to welcome me.”

He added: “All in all, a fabulous day. I’m now physically broken, but it was worth it.”

Stuart has raised over £3,500 for the charity through a JustGiving page, with the funds going towards things like life-saving equipment or wellbeing support for the ambulance service’s frontline workers.

The chief executive of EEAST, Neill Moloney, said: “Stuart’s achievement is nothing short of inspirational. His determination, resilience, and commitment to supporting our ambulance service community exemplify the very best of EEAST.

“Cycling 255 miles in 24 hours is a remarkable physical challenge, but what stands out even more is the spirit behind it.

“On behalf of everyone at EEAST, I want to thank Stuart for his incredible effort and the awareness and funds he’s raised for our charity.”
