Swaffham man Connor Forbes in 100mph police chase with faulty exhaust and child in the car
A 24-year-old could face prison after driving erratically with a woman and child in his car.
Connor Forbes, of Buttercup Drive in Swaffham, became involved in a police chase after officers activated their blue lights.
Officers saw that Forbes’ Audi A3 had a defective exhaust and no valid MOT, and ordered him to pull over.
However, Forbes did not - and instead increased his speed to the point where he was driving at 60mph in a 30mph speed zone in Swaffham.
When the vehicles entered a 60mph zone, Forbes increased his speed to 100mph.
Officers noticed flames coming from Forbe’s exhaust and decided to stop their pursuit on safety grounds.
The incident took place on November 27 last year, and officers later tracked Forbes down and arrested him.
A woman and child were in the car while the police chase unfolded.
At Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Forbes admitted driving dangerously, driving without insurance, failing to stop for police and driving without an MOT.
Once arrested, Forbes was interviewed by police. He said that he panicked when being chased because he thought his Audi would be seized along with his work tools in the back of the car.
In mitigation, solicitor Ruth Johnson said: “I think we can be thankful that there were no injuries or damage. He knows all too well that this could have had an entirely different outcome.
“It is right to say in police interview he made full admissions. He was disgusted by his behaviour. He is still disappointed and upset now.”
Magistrates have ordered the probation service to carry out an all options pre-sentence report on Forbes.
He has been handed an interim driving disqualification, and will return to court on April 16 to learn his fate.
