A West Norfolk man will be sentenced at crown court for possession of 157 indecent images of children.

Thomas Short, 33, appeared before Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to three charges.

They relate to 38 category A images (the most serious), 37 category B and 82 category C.

Prosecutor Jodin Gherra said the photographs had been found on devices seized from Short’s home in Upwell when he was arrested for a separate matter on January 10, 2021.

Short, of Small Lode, had no previous convictions.

Miss Gherra invited the bench to consider that its powers were insufficient to deal with the case.

Solicitor Claire Edgeler said: “At this stage, I would concur that this matter is more likely and more appropriate to be dealt with by the crown court.

“Mr Short will be entitled to maximum [sentence] credit for this prompt guilty plea.”

The case was committed to Norwich Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

Short was ordered to begin sex offender notification requirements by visiting Lynn Police Station within three days of the magistrates’ court hearing.

He was granted unconditional bail until then.
