A Downham motorist was caught drug-driving just after buying cannabis in North Lynn, a court heard yesterday.

Shane Elliott, 29, was pulled over by police in Losinga Road on January 25.

He admitted to officers he had smoked cannabis that morning. Elliott was then arrested after a positive test.

In custody he provided a sample which showed 4.7 micrograms of a cannabis body breakdown product per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit is two.

Lynn magistrates heard yesterday that cannabis had been found in the Vauxhall Astra, for which Elliott was given a warning. He pleaded guilty to drug-driving.

Liz Symonds, mitigating, said her client had just done a deal for cannabis and police had seen that and subsequently stopped him.

Elliott, of Elizabeth Avenue, was banned from driving for a year, fined £60 and told to pay £105 costs plus a £34 victim surcharge.
