Three ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Norfolk Accident Rescue Service were sent to the scene.

“Sadly, the driver of the car, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene,” they said.

Police shut the A47 in both directions between the A1075 at Dereham and the A1065 at Swaffham due to the incident.

It had reopened by 5.35pm, with National Highways officials saying that the scene was clear and that there were no residual delays in the area.

A Norfolk Police spokesperson said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
