West Norfolk resident fined as his waste ended up fly-tipped after paying stranger to take it away
A West Norfolk resident who paid a stranger who offered to take his old fridge away did not get the bargain he was expecting.
What he did not realise was that his waste would in fact be fly-tipped and the borough council’s clean neighbourhood enforcement officer would track him down.
The deal has now cost him an extra £150 fixed penalty notice for not complying with the law to make sure his waste was lawfully disposed of.
Cllr Sandra Squire, cabinet member for environment and coastal, said: “If you don’t deal with your waste properly our officers will investigate, we will be knocking on your door and interviewing you.
“This resident faced a penalty of £200 but paid it quickly to reduce the amount.
“Compared to taking it to the tip for free or having it collected as a bulky item he has paid quite dearly.
“Fly-tipping or being careless with your waste is illegal and will not be tolerated.”
