Man in 80s stabbed on Main Street in Hockwold dies, police confirm, as investigations continue





A man who was critically injured after being stabbed in Hockwold last week has died in hospital, police have confirmed this evening.

Emergency services were called to Main Street just before 9am on Thursday, February 29 to reports that a man had been stabbed in the neck.

The victim – a man in his 80s – was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and later transferred to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds where he died yesterday.

Officers said a Home Office post-mortem will take place in due course.

A man aged in his 20s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Ashley Francis, 26, of Whittington Hill, was subsequently charged with attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody and appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, March 2.

He is due to appear at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday, April 2.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service.
