Man ordered to pay compensation back to Tesco in Swaffham after stealing shoes and Halloween items
A shoplifter was fined and ordered to pay compensation back to a supermarket after stealing children's shoes and Halloween items.
Michael O’Dwyer, 30, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted the theft which took place on October 7 last year.
Prosecutor Abdul Khan explained that at 7pm, O’Dwyer was seen going into Tesco in Swaffham and picking up a basket.
In that basket he placed some children’s shoes and various Halloween items, with a total value of £34.
He then abandoned the basket and left the store with the items but did not pay for them.
He appeared unrepresented in court and explained that the shoes he stole were for his child and that they were needed for school.
“At that time I wasn’t working, I was between jobs,” said O’Dwyer, of Neatherd Road in Dereham.
He was fined £466 for committing the offence and ordered to pay £34 in compensation back to Tesco.
