A Downham man ended up with a £248 court bill from a night out in Lynn.

William George Bates refused repeated police requests to move on from outside Bar and Beyond in Norfolk Street.

Lynn magistrates heard on Monday that the 29-year-old swore as he told officers: “I’m not moving. I’m waiting til he comes out and I’m going to hit him.”

Bates, of Hillcrest, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly during the early hours of October 28.

In mitigation, Bates said he got into an argument with someone in Bar and Beyond and was assaulted.

He said there was a time when he would have hit him back but he was a “changed man”.

He admitted that he was “very drunk” and the incident outside with police was “silly” and he apologised.

Bates was fined £133 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
