Wolferton man to appear as contestant on Countdown, the clock is ticking
A man from Wolferton will be appearing today on Countdown, the iconic Channel 4 words and numbers game watched by millions.
Tony Bartlett will be battling the famous ticking clock in the words and numbers rounds after being accepted as a contestant.
His performance will be aired tonight, when viewers can find out how he gets on choosing his vowels and consonants and if he beats the dreaded conundrum.
Now hosted by newly-appointed Anne Robinson, previous presenters have included Richard Whiteley, Des Lynam, Des O'Connor and Jeff Stelling.
Most recently Nick Hewer has hosted the show with Colin Murray acting as the stand-in.
Carol Vorderman was made famous from her time deducing the numbers rounds which is now filled by Rachel Riley.
Tony Bartlett said: "I have watched Countdown on and off for years probably from when it first started.
"During lockdown I started watching it again as I was at home in the afternoon and after the programme I kept hearing how to become a contestant.
"I applied had a telephone audition and then received an email saying I had passed and they would let me know when I would be invited for a recording.
"The wait time was almost exactly a year. I was more nervous during the wait than I was when I went to the studio.
"The production team were marvellous and I was put at ease and it was lovely meeting all the presenters and even Anne Robinso) was a delight.
"I enjoyed the experience and didn't feel at all nervous as I thought I would."
