Heacham man wanted to get into social club wearing ‘nothing but a towel’ and broke banner

A man who wanted to get into a social club with just a towel around his waist was drunk and broke a banner.

Dainius Smulkys, 35, of Station Road in Heacham admitted to causing criminal damage in a hearing at Lynn’s Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Prosecutor Nicola Lamb explained that on June 12, police were called to Heacham Social Club to reports of a man wearing a towel around his waist who was drunk.

Smulkys grabbed the edge of a banner and pulled on it, causing a cable tie holding it up to break. He was subsequently arrested by police.

In mitigation, Andrew Cogan said that Smulkys wanted to go inside the social club.

“He approached wearing nothing but a towel and was told he could only come in if he was wearing a t-shirt,” said Mr Cogan.

Smulkys was escorted off the premises.

Mr Cogan added: “He was with a Scottish girl and thought a towel was a reasonable approximation of a kilt. He was drunk and doesn’t remember what was going on. “

Smulkys was handed a six-month conditional discharge from magistrates.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £26 and court costs of £105.
