King's Lynn man who hit another on the head ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work

A Gaywood man has been ordered to do 100 hours’ unpaid work for hitting a man on the back of the head.

It happened in the Parkway area of Gaywood as Wesley Schokker crossed paths with Scott Doak.

Lynn Magistrates’ Court heard on Thursday that they knew each other and Schokker, 24, called Mr Doak a derogatory slur during the assault.

Schokker pleaded guilty to the April 23 offence and a separate matter of cannabis possession.

Prosecutor Colette Harper said police walked past him on November 15 last year and smelt the drug.

A search of Schokker turned up 1.8 grams of the class B controlled drug. He refused to say where he had bought it and was charged because he’d been caught in possession on two previous occasions.

The defendant also admitted breaching a conditional discharge imposed in January for theft of £8 headphones from B&M in Lynn.

In mitigation, solicitor George Sorrell said the assault victim had made remarks to a woman Schokker was with.

“So he hit him – it’s as simple as that. He realises now that whatever the provocation it’s best to walk away,” he added.

The cannabis offence was borne out of Schokker being an “anxious type of person”, the court heard.

The defendant was ordered to do the unpaid work as part of an 18-month community order, which includes 30 days of rehabilitation activity requirements.

Schokker, of Parkway, was also told to pay £50 compensation to Mr Doak, £95 victim surcharge and £105 costs.

There was no separate penalty for the drug offence and the conditional discharge breach was dealt with by resentencing the original matter to no separate penalty.
