Nordelph man who tried to throw mobile phone down drain in Downham Market had drugs worth £1,200 on him
Police who approached a 22-year-old man acting suspiciously in Downham Market saw him try to throw a mobile phone down a drain.
It emerged that he had on him cocaine worth £200, cannabis worth £1,000 and £100 cash.
Louis Wilding was arrested in Fairfield Road, magistrates in Lynn heard on Thursday.
Prosecutor Lily Orr said he gave differing accounts of how he had come by the mobile phone, including taking it from a friend’s house.
He admitted to being a heavy drug user, including three grams of ketamine and “a couple of lines” of cocaine per day.
“He said the drugs found on him were for his own personal use,” Miss Orr added.
Wilding, who pleaded guilty to possession of class A and class B drugs on April 27, had a conviction for possession of class B ketamine in June 2021.
Solicitor George Sorrell, mitigating, said his client’s main purpose in life had become drugs – particularly ketamine - and it had taken a terrible toll on his body.
But Wilding was now receiving help, the court was told.
“For a 22-year-old, he doesn’t present as particularly healthy. He told me he was ten times worse a month ago,” said Mr Sorrell.
“This arrest has brought some good because it’s prompted him to see a doctor and register with [drugs and alcohol support provider] CGL.”
He added: “The reason he had cocaine on April 27 was he was using it to try and get himself off ketamine.”
The defendant, of Fifty Farm Court, Nordelph, was given a 12-month community order with 15 rehabilitation activity days.
He was fined £40 for each of the two offences and ordered to pay £95 victim surcharge.
